AMR’s National Research Oversight Group works with medical researchers and leading educational institutions to interpret and apply the data from its extensive databases to help improve pre-hospital care. Under the group’s guidance, AMR is participating in a number of studies. These include:

  • Working with Harvard University to create a method for reporting on the accuracy and completeness of electronic clinical data.

  • Working with the University of Arizona to publish studies which explore the validity of the Rapid Acute Physiology Scale (RAPS) as a measurement of EMS patient acuity.

  • Undertaking a study with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) on prehospital CPAP utilization and its impact on patient acuity.

  • In conjunction with the American Heart Association, the Wiser Center at the University of Pittsburgh and the National League of Nursing, we are participating in a multi-site, multi-state study comparing cognitive knowledge retention between traditional bi-annual ACLS re-certification and short monthly case-based modules.

  • Several AMR operations are contributing cardiac arrest data to the CARES Registry, a collaborative project sponsored by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Emory University.

  • Multiple AMR operations are contributing data to the National Institutes of Health Research Outcomes Consortium to evaluate the impact of a variety of resuscitation interventions.
