AMR Prepared for War-Related Incidents
TORRANCE, CA, March
20, 2003 – Ambulance operator American Medical
Response is fully prepared to address any incidents which
may occur in Southern California as a result of the (impending)
Iraqi War.
Using a template developed on the morning of
the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, AMR is ready to mobilize five
10-ambulance “strike teams” and deploy them from
Los Angeles County Fire Department stations. Those strike
teams will pay particular attention to Los Angeles International
Airport and the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach
AMR has established six deployment centers
at its facilities throughout Los Angeles County, stocking
them with a 30-day cache of medical supplies to treat any
potential victims of terrorist attacks.
AMR’s mobile treatment center can be
sent directly to the scene of any incident. The modified motor
coach—essentially an emergency room on wheels-- is able
to provide critical on-site patient care and triage. It may
also be expanded into a self-sustaining base for long-term
medical operations, allowing physicians and nurses from local
hospitals to render treatment as efficiently as possible
With more than 550 vehicles performing more
than 500,000 patient transports annually in Southern California,
AMR is the region’s best equipped, most highly-accredited
ambulance operator.
American Medical Response, Inc.
(www.amr-inc.com), the nation’s largest provider
of medical transportation, is locally operated in 34 states.
More than 18,000 AMR paramedics, EMTs and other professionals
transport over four million patients nationwide each year
in emergency, critical and non-emergency situations. AMR,
a wholly owned subsidiary of Laidlaw Inc., is headquartered
in Greenwood Village, CO.
