American Medical Response Earns California’s First Dual CAAS/NAED Accreditation by a Private Ambulance Service

Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Cites AMR for Exceptional Performance; Innovative Terrorism Response and Community Programs

Los Angeles – April 8, 2003 – American Medical Response (AMR), which serves as 911 provider in more than 50 cities throughout Los Angeles County, has been cited by the Board of Supervisors for its high level of preparedness and contributions to the community.

The Board has commended AMR for four unprecedented achievements:

Becoming the first private ambulance company in the Western United States to receive accreditations from both the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) and the National Academies of Emergency Dispatch (NAED).
For co-creating a rapid-response “strike team” concept, now being adopted by EMS agencies statewide.
For providing CPR training to more than 2,100 middle school students in a single day and setting a Guinness World Record in the process.
For its community and educational programs.

“This commendation proves that AMR is the best-equipped and prepared ambulance provider in Los Angeles County,” said David Mintz, CEO for AMR’s Southern Pacific Division. “We are proud that our efforts warrant such endorsements and are grateful to the County Board of Supervisors for recognizing our achievements.”

The rigorous accreditation processes by CAAS and NAED examined more than 50 components of service, including clinical practice, equipment and training. AMR’s “strike team” ambulance deployment strategy for responding to possible terrorist incidents was developed with the Los Angeles County Fire Department immediately following the events of Sept. 11, 2001. AMR’s community programs, such as Junior Paramedics and CPR in Schools, have educated more than 25,000 Southern California elementary and middle school students on how to use the 911 system and life-saving skills in an emergency.

American Medical Response (AMR) operates more than 550 state-of-the-art ambulances in Southern California and provides 911 backup to the Los Angeles County Fire Department in more than 50 cities countywide.
