AMR Executive Noted for 20 Years of EMS
Excellence
GULFPORT, MS, June 17,
2003 -- The National Registry of Emergency Medical
Technicians has forwarded a certificate of recognition to
Steven J. Delahousey, R.N., NREMT, for maintenance of registration
for 20 consecutive years. Delahousey has been involved in
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for 34 years. His first assignment
was operating an ambulance after Hurricane Camille in 1969.
The National Registry Emergency Medical Technicians
(NREMT) is a non-profit, non-governmental agency, lead by
a Board of Directors comprised of the leading Emergency Medical
Service Agencies in the United States. Since its inception
in 1970, NREMT has registered over 773,000 EMTs in 50 states.
Of that number, only a few have served their community and
fellow man for 20 years.
The National Registry recognizes that maintenance
of NREMT status requires a commitment to excellence. Refresher
and training requirements for EMTs are required every two
years. Many EMTs cannot handle the stress of dealing with
victims of injury and disease. Many suffer career ending injuries
while lifting and moving patients. Many seek higher paying
jobs or leave EMS. For these reasons Delahousey has achieved
a status held by few.
Delahousey is the Vice President of Operations
MS, LA, AL for American Medical Response. In addition to being
a Nationally Registered Emergency Technician, Delahousey is
a Registered Nurse (R.N.) and was the first RN to provide
pre-hospital Advanced Life Support (ALS) in Mississippi. He
is also credited with the first out of hospital cardiac save
in Mississippi using a portable defibrillator.
Delahousey is active in Emergency Management
Services, serves as a member of the Governor’s EMS advisory
council and is the Chairman of the Harrison County 9-1-1 Commission.
From 1984 through 1988, Delahousey served as the Coroner for
Harrison County, MS.
William Brown, Jr., Executive Director of the
National Registry states, “Steven J. Delahousey has
served your community with honor as an Emergency Medical Technician.
His contribution of over 20 years of represents the highest
commitment to his community and fellow man during the most
vulnerable time period of their lives, immediately following
a medical emergency. The National Registry of Emergency Medical
Technicians along with your community is proud to recognize
this commitment.”
American Medical Response, Inc. (www.amr-inc.com),
