American Medical Response Joins Statewide
Amber Alert Program
AUGUST 29, 2003 LIVERMORE,
CA- September 2, 2003, marks American Medical Response’s
official participation in the statewide Amber Alert program.
With a long-standing tradition of community involvement, American
Medical Response is pleased with its ability to provide assistance
in the recovery of missing and abducted children. The Northern
(Northern Pacific Region) and Southern (Southern Pacific Region)
California AMR operations were nominated by the California
Highway Patrol, CodeAmber, EDIS and Amberalerter to participate
in this process.
The public usually is informed of an Amber
Alert with updates and information on freeway signs, radio
broadcasts and other means. With AMR vehicles and personnel
on California streets and freeways 24-hours a day, AMR is
ideally positioned to assist law enforcement in its quest
to find victims and locate suspects in abduction cases. When
CHP, Code Amber, EDIS, or Amberalerter receive notice, they
immediately will contact the 10 AMR Communication Centers
throughout California. Next, all AMR field medical crews will
be notified of the alert through their pagers, radios or mobile
data terminals. If AMR caregivers spot a suspect vehicle,
all that is required is to contact their respective Communication
Center. The Communication Center will notify the appropriate
law enforcement agencies immediately with the necessary information.
American Medical Response, Inc. (www.amr.net),
the nation’s largest provider of medical transportation,
is locally operated in 35 states. More than 18,000 AMR paramedics,
EMTs and other professionals transport over four million patients
nationwide each year in emergency, critical and non-emergency
situations. AMR, a wholly owned subsidiary of Laidlaw International,
Inc. (TSX:BUS), is headquartered in Greenwood Village, CO.
