AMR Teams Up for Amber Alert in Colorado
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO,
October 8, 2003 -- American Medical Response of Colorado
announced today that it has joined forces with the Colorado
Bureau of Investigation in protecting the safety of the children
in our communities. AMR is the only non-law enforcement agency
in Colorado participating in the Amber Alert process.
The Amber Alert system is named in honor of
nine-year-old Amber Hagerman who was abducted while playing
near her Arlington, Texas home and later found murdered. This
law was put into effect in April 2003 to increase public awareness
of a kidnapped child.
When an Amber Alert is issued, the Colorado
Bureau of Investigation will fax the alert to the AMR Communications
Centers in Denver and Colorado Springs. The information will
be sent via pager to on-duty ambulance crews in Colorado.
If an ambulance crew spots a suspect or the missing child,
they will then notify the AMR Communication Center and the
on-duty supervisor alerts the local law enforcement agency.
AMR serves five communities in Colorado and at any one time
has more than 80 ambulances deployed throughout those communities.
American Medical Response, Inc. (www.amr.net),
the nation’s largest provider of medical transportation,
is locally operated in 32 states. More than 18,000 AMR paramedics,
EMTs and other professionals transport over four million patients
nationwide each year in emergency, critical and non-emergency
situations. AMR, a wholly owned subsidiary of Laidlaw International,
Inc. (TSX:BUS), is headquartered in Greenwood Village, CO.
