AMR AMBULANCES DELIVER SAFE WATER TO NURSING
HOMES
WATERBURY, CT, January
16, 2004 – American Medical Response (AMR) donated
and delivered thousands of bottles of water today to Waterbury-area
nursing home residents that had been affected by a cold-induced
water main break.
The affected nursing homes had either diminished
or discolored water flowing from their taps. After the initial
AMR water donation of about 2,400 bottles, Crystal Rock Water
Company, Watertown, CT, donated an addition 2,600 bottles
of water, which AMR employees are continuing to distribute
in affected areas.
Sub-zero temperatures, gusting winds and a
large water main break created problems in Waterbury last
night. At one point during the evening, over 80,000 residents
were without water. Today, City officials report that while
the vast majority of the City has water, pressure is still
down and some of the water is discolored due to a disturbance
of the pipes. While health officials have officially declared
that the water is safe, the consumption of brown water is
troublesome to many consumers.
"We were pleased to make these deliveries
to the affected nursing homes in the City," said Robert
Retallick, Director of Operations for AMR in Waterbury. "The
nursing homes have told us that they'll use the water to administer
medications and provide drinking water at mealtimes until
the taps are running clear again.”
AMR has provided primary 9-1-1 emergency ambulance
services to the City of Waterbury for more than 25 years.
American Medical Response, Inc. (www.amr-inc.com),
the nation’s largest provider of medical transportation,
is locally operated in 32 states. More than 17,000 AMR paramedics,
EMTs and other professionals transport over four million patients
nationwide each year in emergency, critical and non-emergency
situations. AMR, a wholly owned subsidiary of Laidlaw Inc.,
is headquartered in Greenwood Village, CO.
