AMR and Woodmoor-Monument Fire Protection
District Announce Public Private Partnership
Colorado Springs, CO,
February 4, 2004 - American Medical Response (AMR),
El Paso County and the Woodmoor-Monument Fire Protection District
(WMFPD) announced today a public-private partnership to provide
24-hour paramedic staffed Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulance
service. The service will enable faster ALS response to the
citizens of Woodmoor-Monument and adjoining communities in
Northern El Paso and Southern Douglas Counties (on an as needed
basis). The paramedic ambulance is AMR's second such ambulance
partnership in Northern El Paso County and will begin service
on Monday, Feb. 9, 2004.
“ We appreciate AMR’s willingness
to provide this high quality, responsive service to the Woodmoor-Monument
residents at no additional cost to the taxpayer,” said
Board President Bob Browning. “AMR has provided great
service to our district in the past from its Gleneagle location
and this extension of the partnership will provide significantly
enhanced service to our constituents.”
-The agreement between the District and AMR
positions the paramedic ambulance at the Woodmoor Fire Station
under a shared staffing and equipment model for a six month
"proof of concept" period. At the end of the six-month
period, the partners will evaluate the arrangement and implement
a longer-term model. AMR currently provides primary ambulance
service for Northern El Paso County from the Donald Westcott
FPD Fire Station Three in Gleneagle, and will continue to
do so.
-“This partnership, much like the very
successful one we have shared with the Donald Wescott Fire
Protection District, allows each organization to leverage
its strengths and consistently provide the highest level of
service,” said Mark Bruning, Vice President, AMR Rocky
Mountain - Plains Division.
The AMR ambulance, stationed at the Woodmoor
Fire Protection District, will be a modular Type I ambulance
equipped with four-wheel drive and AMR’s new enhanced
GPS and in-vehicle mapping technologies. The unit will be
jointly staffed 24-hours a day, seven days a week, by an AMR
emergency medical technician (EMT) and a Woodmoor-Monument
Fire Protection District paramedic. The ambulance will respond
to all 9-1-1 emergency calls, provide medical support for
fire fighters during structure fires and respond to mutual
aid requests from neighboring jurisdictions.
AMR is the contracted ambulance provider for
El Paso County and provides 9-1-1 emergency service to the
County with 24 ALS paramedic ambulances. Last year AMR responded
to more than 44,000 calls for service in the County.
American Medical Response, Inc. (www.amr.net),
