High School Students Participate in Disaster Drill
Denver, CO, May 14,
2004 – Explorers from American Medical Response (AMR) Denver Post-2119 and Pueblo Post-911 - will participate in a disaster drill that will simulate a school bus accident and subsequent medical response and treatment. The drill will be held on Sunday, May 16, at Adams County Fair Grounds, 9755 Henderson Road, Brighton, CO. Over 100 high school students throughout Colorado will participate in the exercise, of which 50 of them will be AMR Explorers.
The drill will be based around a simulated school bus accident that will involve 75 "patients" ranging in age from five to 60 years old. The Explorers who are trained as First Responders will be responsible for triage, treatment and transportation of patients. This exercise will provide the students the opportunity to practice their skills learned in Explorer training.
The Explorer program teaches high school students about a specific career field. The Explorer program offered at AMR teaches students about Emergency Medical Services and Pre-hospital Care Services.
The Denver Area Boy Scouts Association, Thorton Fire Department and AMR are sponsoring the exercise.
