AMR-Portland Awarded Emergency Medical Dispatch Accreditation

Portland, Oregon, May 28, 2004 – For outstanding performance in emergency medical dispatching, the American Medical Response (AMR) Communication Center in Portland has just received accreditation from the National Academy of Emergency Dispatch (NAED).

The NAED is the international standard for promoting efficient and productive emergency dispatching.

Now recognized as an Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE), AMR-Portland Communications is the first emergency dispatch center in Oregon and only the 92 nd in the world to receive this superior distinction.

The Communication Center 's performance during implementation of its Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS), and compliance with Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) standards resulted in this prestigious award.

With scripted instructions for its dispatchers to handle CPR, childbirth assistance, airway relief and other emergency situations, MPDS has been credited with saving thousands of lives.

During NAED's rigorous 20 points of excellence review, the Academy was impressed with AMR's high level of quality performance, clinical practices, equipment, training and overall emergency preparedness.

As the nation's leading ambulance provider, AMR has now received the endorsement by NAED in nine of its communication centers.
