AMR MAN NAMED INDIANA PARAMEDIC OF THE YEAR
Evansville, IN, October 4,
2004– Lee Turpin, Clinical and Education Services Coordinator for American Medical Response (AMR), was recently named as the recipient of the Frank D. Gilbert, Jr., Memorial 2004 Indiana Paramedic of the Year Award. The award is sponsored by Community Hospitals of Indiana.
Turpin works for AMR and two other ambulance organizations. He is actively involved in Quality Assurance programs designed to improve patient care. He is certified as an instructor for many levels of paramedic care, including ACLS , BTLS, PALS, UMBC Critical Care Paramedic, Indiana EVOC, and Traumatic Brain Injury. He serves as the site manager for AMR 's on-line clearing house of clinical information and educational tools, which serves a nationwide network of clinical and educational services coordinators.
Turpin was a volunteer firefighter for over 13 years. He also assists emergency departments as an interpreter for the deaf. He has been appointed to the Governor's Indiana Child Fatality Review Committee.
Turpin is known for his ability to calm his patients and his ability to communicate with others. He has been active in EMS on the state level through service on the EMD Task Force, the Advanced EMT Task Force, and as a presenter at many state conferences.
When asked about the award, Turpin said that he is "only doing his job and that the recognition should really go to everyone at the Evansville Operation."
