AMERICAN MEDICAL RESPONSE SELECTED AS THE AMBULANCE SERVICE PROVIDER OF CHOICE BY CONTRA COSTA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

(Contra Costa County , CA ) Today, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors unanimously selected American Medical Response (AMR), Contra Costa County 's ambulance service provider since 1977, for a new 5 year contract with the opportunity for a 4 year extension after June 30, 2010, to continue to provide emergency medical services to Contra Costa County . AMR will now begin implementation of the new Agreement which provides enhanced services, equipment, training and quicker response times. The new contract will take effect on July 1, 2005.
The decision was the last in a three step process defined by the County. AMR was recommended by Dr. William Walker, County Health Services Director and supported by Kaiser Healthcare, the paramedics and EMT's and many others, to the Board of Supervisors last February. Since then, AMR and the County have worked together to develop the contract that will enhance Emergency Medical Services for the future.
