AMR Riverside County employees, with a little help from their friends in the San Diego, Los Angeles and Ventura County operations, recently raised over $42,000 for the March of Dimes. Almost all the nearly 1,000 Riverside County employees participated in the March of Dimes campaign this year.

The March for Babies campaign is an annual charitable walking event sponsored by the March of Dimes. Proceeds from the event help fund research to prevent premature births, birth defects and infant mortality. This year’s event raised over $270,000.

According to Doug Key, Regional Director, AMR has been a sponsor of the March for Babies event for the past four years. The idea to participate came after Doug was approached by a colleague at a local hospital to see if he would be interested in serving on the board for the Greater LA March of Dimes.

“I was surprised to learn about the scope of work that the March of Dimes does,” Key said. “I think most people have heard of the organization but aren’t aware of all the things they do from research and education to influencing policy.” “The March of Dimes is committed to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, infant mortality and premature birth,” Key added.

One of the ways the team raised funds was to sell “We do it for the babies” t-shirts. This year, the team raised $11,000 in t-shirt sales. “In May, medics can wear the t-shirts instead of their Class B uniforms,” Key said. “People love wearing the shirts and it’s a great way to get the word out about the March of Dimes.

Thanks to all who participated, you serve your communities well. A special thank you to Doug for leading the charge as well as those employees who were key to making the event a success this year:
