American Medical Response Completes Implementation of Largest EMS Electronic Patient Care Reporting

Greenwood Village, Colo. (September 20, 2012) - American Medical Response (AMR) recently completed the largest implementation of an electronic patient care reporting system (ePCR) for emergency medical services in the nation. AMR has deployed its proprietary Multi EMS Data System (MEDS) ePCR system in more than 98 AMR locations throughout the country, where it is in use by over 17,000 EMS professionals. The system processes nearly three million patient care reports annually, and currently contains more than 15 million unique medical records.

Emergency medical services professionals collect and document vast amounts of critical information needed to diagnose and treat patients. AMR’s MEDS system assembles all patient information into a consistent, reliable and comprehensive platform which strengthens the integration between prehospital and hospital care for patients.

“The completion of this two year enterprise-wide rollout achieves one of our most important goals – to leverage the largest EMS database of patient encounters in the country to drive better care, lower costs and improve patient outcomes,” said Mark Bruning, AMR President. “This milestone is the result of the work of a committed, passionate, cross-functional team of professionals and caregivers who are second to none in our profession.”

“Having this information in one platform will let us critically evaluate our care for patients through more complete benchmarking and quality improvement initiatives. For example, AMR cares for over 25,000 sudden cardiac arrest patients each year. Information on our care for this patient population will assist us in developing better practices and initiatives to improve survival,” said Lynn White, AMR National Director of Resuscitation and Accountable Care.

American Medical Response Inc. (www.amr.net), America’s leading provider of medical transportation, provides services in 40 states and the District of Columbia. Nearly 17,000 AMR paramedics, EMTs, RNs and other professionals, with a fleet of 4,500 vehicles, transport more than three million patients nationwide each year in critical, emergency and non-emergency situations. AMR, a subsidiary of Emergency Medical Services Corporation, is headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colo.
