05.14.2012

Greenwood Village, Colo., May 14, 2012 – Nineteen American Medical Response (AMR) paramedics, EMTs and dispatchers from 14 different states and the country of Trinidad and Tobago were awarded the Star of Life in Washington D.C. the first week in May. The 19 AMR caregivers were among 80 total recipients to receive the Star of Life award – the highest honor an EMS worker can receive.

The Star of Life award is given by the American Ambulance Association and honors the dedication of ambulance service professionals, who through their individual actions represent excellence in every area of the EMS industry. The 19 AMR caregivers were selected by their peers through an extensive nomination process.

The award recipients left for Washington D.C. on April 29 and spent several days in the nation’s Capitol where they joined the other Stars for a special awards banquet. In addition, Star recipients met with congressional staff members on Capitol Hill and were treated to a tour of Washington, D.C.

AMR’s President, Mark Bruning, noted “All of the Stars of Life recipients and certainly those representing AMR, our caregivers and communities, are truly the best of the best. Their professional achievements, acts of bravery, clinical skills and selfless service to others are a shining example of the level of commitment these incredible men and women bring to their profession and patients every day.”

Celebration of those awarded continues during EMS Week, May 21 to 27. Stars will be individually honored by their operations and communities at dinners, luncheons and other award ceremonies. Additional information about each Star can be found on the AMR website at http://www.amr.net/About-AMR/Awards---Recognition/Stars-of-Life.aspx.
