American Medical Response (AMR) has again been awarded the national EMS Disaster contract by FEMA through a competitive RFP process. The award for FEMA Zones 1 and 2 follows a similar FEMA RFP award to AMR in February for Zones 3 and 4 and again covers all four FEMA Zones for all 48 States in the contiguous U.S. These are five-year contracts with annual options to renew.
AMR’s President, Mark Bruning, stated “We are very pleased that the Federal Government and FEMA have recognized AMR’s significant investment and contribution to the national response to major incidents requiring federal government assistance and we are proud of our team and partners who have performed so well when called upon over the last five years.”
According to Don Harvey, AMR’s Chief of Emergency Preparedness, “The new contracts have evolved somewhat since 2007. The purpose of the new AMR/FEMA contracts is to obtain Contractor-managed multi-functional medical support resources and capabilities as needed in support of Federal assistance, evacuations, or other medical support activations for national events. The support resources shall be in the form of both staffed medical transport capabilities as well as licensed and certified medical personnel for augmentation beyond medical transportation.”
Steve Delahousey, AMR’s Vice President of Emergency Preparedness, added, “Our robust Disaster Response Team makes us ideally suited to carry out these additional duties,” noting that the AMR/FEMA contract has been activated successfully five times since its inception in 2007, including:
- Hurricane Dean – 2007
- Hurricane Gustav – 2008
- Hurricane Ivan – 2008
- Presidential Inauguration – 2009
- Hurricane Irene – 2011
