(Philadelphia, PA) — Every seven minutes a child is transported by an ambulance to a hospital in Pennsylvania. More than 70,000 children are transported by ambulances with a potentially life threatening medical condition. The Pennsylvania Health Services Council (PEHSC) recognizes American Medical Response (AMR) with a Master Level pediatric care designation.

AMR is one of two ambulance services in Philadelphia to be recognized at the Master Level. Master Level means that AMR has additional pediatric-specific medical equipment on the ambulances, requires all staff to complete ChildLine child abuse background clearances, provides four hours of pediatric-specific continuing education per year and is actively involved in multiple community outreach programs.

“AMR is demonstrating that they are truly prepared for pediatric patients and are ready to respond to all emergency situations involving Pennsylvania’s youngest citizens”, said Thomas Winkler, EMS for Children Project Director.

Pennsylvania Emergency Health Services Council, the Pennsylvania Emergency Medical Services for Children program, in partnership with the Department of Health, Bureau of EMS created the Pediatric Voluntary Recognition Program to recognize EMS agencies that are willing to go beyond current requirements to deliver excellence in emergency medical care to children within the Commonwealth.

Media Opportunity:
