(Buffalo, NY) - American Medical Response (AMR) announced the appointment of Thomas Maxian, a veteran ambulance services executive, as General Manager in New York and Ohio.

Maxian, former CEO of Twin City Ambulance, will oversee the company's operations and pursue new opportunities in the region. A Western New York native, Maxian remains certified as a paramedic.

"Tom will provide strategic direction and oversight to AMR operations in New York and Ohio, where his extensive background in managing emergency medical services (EMS) operations will be an invaluable asset," said Thomas McEntee, East Region CEO of AMR.

"I'm thrilled to join AMR, the nation's leading provider of medical transportation services," Maxian said. "With AMR's resources, expertise and focus on excellence in technology and training, we can bring a high level of quality and reliability to communities and health care facilities in the region."

Maxian began his EMS career in 1985 and quickly moved into operational leadership positions, including Field Supervisor, Director of Training, Communications Manager and Operations Manager. From 2000 to 2003, he worked part-time as a paramedic while attending law-school. Upon graduation, he joined the nationally-recognized law firm of Nixon Peabody in New York. Maxian returned to his EMS roots and joined Twin City Ambulance as the company's Chief Executive Officer and General Counsel.

Under Maxian's leadership, Twin City experienced unprecedented growth, providing emergency 911 services to cities and towns in upstate New York. He also expanded the firm's special event coverage and interfacility transport business and oversaw the implementation of Twin City's 12-Lead EKG/Cardiac Care program, which enabled the transport of heart attack patients directly to cardiac catheterization laboratories.

Maxian has a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Buffalo State College, where he was elected to the Pi Sigma Alpha and Kappa Delta Pi societies. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of at Buffalo Law School, where he was awarded a dean's scholarship and served as a Note and Comment Editor of the Buffalo Law Review. He earned his MBA with distinction from the University of Buffalo School of Management and was elected to the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honor Society.
