AMR Offers Residents a Cost-Free Way to Begin a Career in EMS

(LOUISVILLE, Ky.) — American Medical Response (AMR) today announced it is launching the company’s award-winning Earn While You Learn program in Louisville.

The program is designed to make it an easier transition for those who want to work in EMS. Participants are hired as employees and compensated while attending AMR’s EMT-Basic certification course. Upon successful completion of the program and obtaining their state certification, participants are promoted to EMT-B with a commensurate pay increase. The program is an exciting opportunity for Louisville residents who want to begin a rewarding career in EMS. The program was nationally recognized late last year by the American Ambulance Association in the Employee Programs Category.

“We are thrilled to offer area residents the opportunity to serve their community without worrying about taking time off without pay,” said Stephanie Rutter, Regional Director for AMR in Kentucky. “Earn While You Learn makes a career in EMS more accessible, particularly as we face a national and local EMT shortage. This program helps alleviate the income barrier and will allow for more Louisville residents to launch a new, rewarding career.”

Candidates will be required to successfully pass the company’s pre-placement testing, which will include, but is not limited to a drug screen, employment history, driving record, criminal record, and educational background. Students must agree to work as an EMT for AMR for a period of one year after being certified.

AMR is seeking up to 35 candidates for its first EMS class, which is slated to begin October 5, 2020. Interested applicants should apply by September 21, 2020 via the AMR website www.amr.net and search for Requisition ID 2020-10811 under the Careers section.
