AMR is dedicated to supporting our employees and strengthening the communities we serve. Through the Paramedic School Sponsorship Program, eligible employees may receive tuition assistance to further their education and advance their careers in emergency medical services. We also offer an annual Community Inclusion Sponsorship that supports programs and initiatives focused on accessibility, belonging and meaningful community engagement. These sponsorship opportunities help individuals grow professionally while making a meaningful impact within our organization and the communities we serve.

Who Is Eligible for Sponsorship?

To be eligible for sponsorship, you must:

  • Be currently employed with AMR
  • Have completed at least six consecutive months of employment with AMR before submitting your application
  • Successfully complete the sponsorship application
  • Participate in an interview with the Community Education Team
  • Receive Operations Manager approval

What Paramedic School Am I Allowed to Attend?

You may attend one of the schools listed below or another school within the local region. Each sponsorship request, including school selection, is reviewed individually. An employee may request a specific school; however, final approval is determined by AMR.

Approved institutions include:

How Do I Complete Prerequisites?

Prerequisite courses may be completed through a community college, online institution, Sophia.org or other accredited educational provider, provided the credits are accepted by the approved paramedic program you plan to attend.

Before enrolling in any prerequisite coursework, it is your responsibility to verify with the receiving school that the credits will transfer and meet program requirements. AMR does not determine transferability of credits and is not responsible for evaluating whether coursework completed at one institution will be accepted by another.

If you are completing courses toward an associate degree or program admission requirements, those requirements MUST be completed prior to enrolling in the paramedic program.

Important: Credit transfer policies vary by institution. Students are responsible for contacting the college or university directly to confirm transfer eligibility and program acceptance before registering for courses. AMR is not responsible for denied transfer credits, delayed graduation or additional coursework required due to non-transferable credits.

What Does the Sponsorship Cover?

The sponsorship covers the following at your approved institution:

  • Tuition
  • Required books
  • Required uniforms

Are There Any Upfront Costs?

The following expenses require payment upfront before reimbursement can be processed. These expenses are eligible for reimbursement through Concur.

  • Background checks
  • Drug screenings** (Please refer to “How Do I Schedule My Drug Screen” section below)

What Are My Responsibilities After Approval?

Receiving sponsorship approval DOES NOT complete your school enrollment requirements. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Completing all school admission requirements.
    • Please refer to your school's admission policies.
  • Submitting all required documentation by school deadlines.
    • Please refer to your school's admission policies.
  • Monitoring communications from both your school and AMR.

IMPORTANT: Failure to submit required documentation on time to your approved school will result in you forfeiting your sponsorship, and you will be required to resubmit your application and interview for a new sponsorship spot.

How Do I Submit My Transcripts?

Check with your school's Registrar's Office regarding the official process for having your OFFICIAL transcripts mailed directly to your approved paramedic school.

As the student, it is your responsibility to ensure that all OFFICIAL transcripts and required documentation are submitted directly to your approved paramedic school. AMR is not responsible for denied admissions, missing paperwork, transfer of credit issues, delayed graduation or additional coursework resulting from a student's failure to submit required documentation.

How Do I Schedule My Drug Screen?

Contact Kevin White at kevin.white@gmr.net as soon as your school requests a drug screen.

**If your school does not accept AMR drug screening, you must obtain a drug screen independently and submit the expense through Concur for reimbursement.

How Do I Order Books and Uniforms?

Contact Jessica Sellars at Jessica.sellars@gmr.net to request a JotForm ordering link.

Please note YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for the following:

  • Requesting the ordering link from Jessica Sellars.
  • Verifying all book selections and uniform sizes BEFORE submitting your order.
  • Monitoring shipping updates and email notifications after placing your order.
  • Ensuring that all required books and uniforms have been received and are in your possession prior to the first day of paramedic school.

We will NOT reorder uniforms if you select the incorrect size.

What If I Need Vaccinations for School?

Vaccinations may be obtained through:

  • Your primary care provider.
  • Local pharmacies such as CVS or Walgreens.
  • ZoomCare and other urgent care providers.

Why Is Health Insurance Required?

Paramedic programs include labs, clinical experiences and hands-on training. It is the student's responsibility to maintain health insurance coverage throughout Paramedic school.

Do I Need to Check In?

Yes. Sponsorship recipients are expected to maintain communication with the Community Education Team and participate in scheduled check-ins throughout the program.

Failure to maintain communication may result in revocation of your sponsorship.

What Happens If I Need to Pause School?

Not all programs allow students to pause enrollment due to injury, illness or personal circumstances. If you withdraw, are dropped, or must restart the program, you are responsible for repaying sponsorship funds already paid on your behalf by AMR.

How Long Is the Sponsorship Commitment?

EMT-to-Paramedic Sponsorship

  • Requires a 24-month work commitment following successful completion of FTEP.

Belonging and Inclusion Sponsorship

  • Requires a 36-month work commitment following successful completion of FTEP.

Scheduled check-ins will continue throughout the commitment period.

What Happens If I Fail the Program?

Employees who do not successfully complete the paramedic program are responsible for repaying the full amount of sponsorship funds paid by AMR on their behalf.

When Else Could Repayment Be Required?

Repayment is required if:

  • You fail to complete the Paramedic program.
  • You fail FTEP as an entry-level paramedic as outlined in your sponsorship agreement.
  • You withdraw from, are dropped from or must restart the paramedic program.
  • You fail to fulfill the work commitment outlined in your sponsorship agreement.

I Work in One County but Want to Be Sponsored in a Different County

Both Operations Managers must approve of the sponsorship change.

I was Approved on Sponsorship in One County, but I Changed My Mind and Want to Work in a Different One.

Once a sponsorship has been approved by your Operations Manager, you are committed to the sponsoring operation for the duration of your sponsorship agreement.

What If I Move and I Need to Transfer Operations After I Have Been Approved?

There are two options:

  1. The receiving Operations Manager may agree to assume the remaining sponsorship obligation; however, approval is not guaranteed.
  2. You may repay the remaining sponsorship balance to your original operation and request a transfer.

Questions?

If you have any additional questions about eligibility, school selection, enrollment requirements, reimbursement or sponsorship obligations that are not covered here, please contact Scholarship Coordinator Jessica Sellars for assistance.
